Stories with Vision

Here are some selected stories from history that I thought exemplified the qualities of high vision and leadership. Some consultants, myself included, suggest that you use these kinds of examples to inspire managers while they engage the difficult task of defining values and mission (the key components of your vision). The stories can also be used to remind the rank and file what others have done in the face of difficulty and tribulation.

Use case studies of other companies with great caution. One of the most common mistakes made in the envisioning process is the assumption that one size fits all. Your vision should be a unique process that addresses your own particular strengths and weaknesses. Since no two organizations are exactly alike, then its a sure bet that your vision for the future won't be either.
